Dialects of Mountain People

I was curious about dialects and found this interesting article. What made me think of searching for something was the wasp which as a kid we would turn into wasper or waspers for plural. We discussed this in an Appalachian studies class that I took in college.

Very interesting. I have always been proud of the dialect I learned growing up in Wise and Dickenson counties. When I go back to visit friends that have never left there, I find myself speaking more of it. I get onto my daughter all the time because of the way she pronounces words differently than me and her vocabulary. I reckon she thinks its the big city round here. I allow that this area has a very rich heritage and tradition. I always get questions about where are you from?
